On the 5th day, we hiked to the newest craters at Fimmvörduháls named
Magni and Móði, after the sons of Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Only
four years old and still warm since the eruption in 2010.
Due to the warmth of the surface, the snow melted and made hollows.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, I had a opportunity to fall into one of the hollow, since I stepped on thin ice. Suddenly I fell into the 2-3 meters deep hollow under the snow.
Felt a bit panic and afraid, but in a minute, my guide and my fellow hikers showed their heads at the new hole I made.
Our young guide Lilya tried to figure out how to pull me out.
First she considered using the hiking stick, but seemed it was not a good idea since the stick will just make the hole bigger and I couldn't have a good hold to it.
Then she crossed her hands and grab my hands. With the help of the groups, they succeeded to pull me out of the hole!
The good thing, except some scratches on my palm, I had nothing injured.
My iPhone display was broken, but it still functioned and my insurance paid the repair cost (costed QAR 530 at a repair shop in City Center Doha, was fell into shop owner words that the display was original iPhone, but later on I realized it was not the original).
My group couldn't stop laughing remembering my fall, especially Juliette.
Well, it was a good point that I could make people happy.
It was 6 July 2015, one day before my birthday. But by mistake, I remembered that day as 7 July, so I told my fellows that it was my birthday, and they more laughed because of the coincidence.
That night, they sang Happy Birthday for me.
Due to the incident, somehow we felt closer as a group.
Below are some photos of the rescue, taken by the wonderful Juliette.
