Laugavegur Trekking Day 1 Part 2: HARAFNTINNUSKER-ÁLFTAVATN (WHOOPER SWAN LAKE)

Day 2: HARAFNTINNUSKER-ÁLFTAVATN (WHOOPER SWAN LAKE)
After a communal breakfast in the hut we head out again and walk along the Reykjafjöll mountains and then descend into the Jökultungur area. The geothermal activity has turned these gullies yellow and red. From the top of Jökultungur there is a great view over the Fjallabak area and lake Álftavatn which is our next overnight stop. Before reaching Álftavatn we cross an unbridged stream on foot. We spend the night in the hut by the lake. (B, L, r, D)
Distance: 12km (7.5 mi) Walking time: 4-5 hrs Descent: 490 m (1610 ')

Our first day trekking was one of the longest day in my life.
Due to heavy snow, our assisting car that bringing our luggage couldn't approached the planned to stay mountain hut at Harafntinnusker, so we had to continue our walk planned to be walked in our 2nd itinerary.

Due to heavy snow, the visibility was very poor and the indications that supposed to show the direction were covered by snow.
Our guides wanted to make a short cut, but it turned out difficult, ended up we had to walked longer.

After walked about 11 hours that day, finally we could reach lake Álftavatn, the place we stayed that night.
